New Patient Registration Medical
Every patient who registers with the practice is offered a ‘new patient appointment’ with the doctor or nurse. The purpose of this is to obtain details of your medical history (your notes can take some months to arrive) and to perform simple well person checks. You need to bring a urine sample to this appointment.
Medical reviews of all long term conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Chronic Heart Disease are always available by appointment.
Children’s Immunisations. Clinics are run by the nurses.
Travel Vaccinations. Please leave details of your proposed itinerary with reception, we have a travel vaccination form that needs to be filled in before booking an appointment. The nurse will then advise you of your requirements. There is a charge for certain vaccinations. Please ask at reception for details.
Flu Vaccinations. The influenza vaccination campaign begins in October and for two months we hold regular clinics for injections. We advise anyone over the age of 65 or who has long-standing medical problems such as heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes or kidney problems to make an appointment. There is no charge for this vaccination. If you fall within any of the categories to receive flu vaccinations and wish to decline the invitation, you should let us know on an annual basis.
Well Person Checks
These are especially relevant if you do not come to the doctors very often. The nurses will check your blood pressure, urine etc, and discuss aspects of a healthy lifestyle with you.
These can be arranged with the nurse. They are best performed in the middle of the menstrual cycle, between periods. The health authority will inform you of the test result approximately six to eight weeks after the test has been taken.
The practice nurses and doctors are happy to spend time advising you on all aspects of contraception and pre-contraception care. The practice offers fitting of coils and implants which need to be arranged with the relevant doctor.
The practice offer diabetic care, by appointment with the practice nurse and the GP. All GPs have training in diabetic medicine. All diabetics are encouraged to attend annually for a full review. Some diabetics are cared for entirely by the practice whereas for others we run a shared care principle with the hospital.
Our Doctors and Nurses offer asthma and COPD care by appointment. Our Nurses and Doctors are able to review your treatment and assess whether your inhaler devices are appropriate for you.
Several of the doctors are able to perform joint injections. Please arrange an appointment with them to assess whether your painful joint might be helped by an injection.
