Ashleigh Barty never competed for the kind of attention that her new role as a mother of two brings, but she is embracing it wholeheartedly. The tennis legend shared a sweet black-and-white photo of her most recent family milestone along with the caption, “Welcome to the world, Jordan.” In addition to being funny, the picture of baby Jordan yawning in a onesie that sweetly read, “Embrace your weird,” stood out because it captured Barty’s grounded, human side. She is constructing a life full of minor but significant triumphs away from the courts.

Ash and her husband Garry Kissick formally presented their daughter Jordan to the world on June 16, 2025, when they announced the baby’s birth. As Barty frequently stressed, their first child, Hayden, born in July 2023, had been a gentle introduction to parenthood. Using her trademark warmth and candor, she called the journey thus far “the best and hardest thing I’ve ever done.” Barty’s story feels incredibly relatable because it reflects the strikingly similar balance of joy and exhaustion that many new parents go through.

For a variety of reasons, Barty’s 2022 tennis retirement made headlines. She left the game shortly after winning the Australian Open, when she was at the top of her game and ranked No. 1. She did so, however, with an inner serenity that seemed uncommon in high-level athletics. She once reaffirmed, “It just felt right,” as she rejoices in her expanding family. This next chapter seems especially rewarding, with many sleepless nights and a deep sense of contentment.

Barty’s journey is particularly poignant because of how openly she discusses the transition from athlete to mother. Her days now revolve around toddler chatter and baby cries, whereas before she lived by strict routines, precisely timed meals, and unrelenting training regimens. She laughed and said, “It’s absolute carnage,” acknowledging how parenting has turned her once orderly routine into a lovely mess.

Support for the news of baby Jordan’s birth was swift and broad, coming from both institutions and fans. The Australian Open and Tennis Australia shared happy messages. Fans and other athletes have complimented Barty on her ability to live a life full of love, creativity, and resiliency after retirement.

Jordan’s arrival was announced, which also brought attention to a broader change among well-known athletes. Barty joins tennis great Angelique Kerber, who also had a baby recently. This new trend is especially helpful for changing how the public views female athletes, particularly in regards to how they handle motherhood and their identities outside of the game. Fans are reminded by their stories that life can be just as inspiring without trophies, if not more so.

A Christmas 2024 photo of Hayden wearing a shirt that said, “I’m going to be a big brother,” was Ash and Garry’s first hint at their expanding family. Their home would soon be filled with more love—and a little more chaos—thanks to the gentle launch. Since then, Barty has been getting ready for motherhood, acknowledging that she is both remarkably prepared and “terrified for what is going to come.”

Barty’s perspective is particularly valuable because she insists on accepting the messiness and magic of motherhood. Clearly moved by their shared journey, she said of Hayden, “He’s been very kind to me as I’m learning.” The learning process is still ongoing with Jordan, but it has additional layers. Her confidence, however, is incredibly stable. She isn’t acting like it’s simple. It’s worth it, she says.

Ash has continued to be creative since retiring, writing a well-liked children’s book series and winning over families and young readers. Her Little Ash books, which she co-wrote with Jasmin McGaughey, are inspirational tales that emphasize confidence, perseverance, and teamwork—values that are similar to her own. That shift from court to children’s books is especially creative and demonstrates how professional legacies can develop into uplifting stories.

Generations are responding favorably to her brand, which is her authenticity. From starring in Bonds advertisements to having a Barbie doll made in her likeness, Barty’s post-tennis fame continues to have a significant influence. None of it, however, comes across as forced or overdone. She seems to be using the same deliberate discipline that she used to guide her forehand in her public persona.

After retiring, many athletes struggle to find their purpose, especially if they stop competing while still at the top of their game. However, Barty’s path goes against that prediction. She has created a life that is surprisingly satisfying in addition to being stable. She seems to have a close relationship with Garry, a former PGA trainee professional who is now a devoted father, and they lead a peaceful, contented life in Queensland.

The most notable thing is how brilliantly successful Barty’s strategy has been in providing a model—not just for athletes, but for anyone thinking about making a drastic change. By putting her own happiness ahead of approval from others, she has created a second act that is both enduring and exquisitely dynamic.
